The Winter Wardrobe: Jeans

The humble pair of jeans have grown from a necessary piece of clothing – as seen in the days of the wild, west West, to a wardrobe essential for fashion lovers all around the world. And for good reason; denim is a very versatile material; it’s durable, comfortable, trendsetting and versatile. Jeans come in all sorts of colours and styles, and so the humble pair of blue jeans can flatter anyone regardless of their look, size and age.

But when it comes to winter, many people feel that denim is just not suitable for the cold, wet and unforgiving weather of the later months. But advents in clothing design and technology have meant that jeans are now more suitable than ever for wearing during the winter; and what’s more, some styles are absolutely perfect for that time of year.

One thing that used to be true of old style jeans, was that they were difficult to wear once wet, and that is because denim can become very uncomfortable to wear once after it gets wet in the rain and snow. However, newer jeans have been improved by the manufacturers to ensure that this won’t happen. While a pair of mens skinny jeans may never be as waterproof as a pair of waterproof trousers, they will still remain comfortable if the man wearing them gets caught in a sudden downpour. Certain materials, such as stretchy materials allows the jeans to have a little more give than traditional denim, and this ensures that the wearer won’t feel uncomfortable at any point whilst wearing them.

While jeans are better to wear during the winter, different colours suit different seasons more, and now shops are stocking jeans in several colours, with everything from yellow, to green, to red and even purple have become popular amongst the fashion-conscious and the savvy-shoppers. If you are looking to buy a pair of winter jeans, then remember to ‘think outside the box’ and go for a colour that’s different from navy, black or any other shade of blue. How to Cut Jeans into Shorts

Convert an old pair of jeans that you refuse to part with, into a pair of authentic and trendy shorts.

While choosing a pair of jeans for shorts, first decide the kind of fit you are looking for, loose or well-fitting.
Wear the jeans and use a washable marker, to mark the exact place you want to cut off your jeans. Measure the length with a measuring tape from your knee cap in order to determine the exact length of the shorts.
Take off the pair and lay out the jeans on a flat surface.
Fold the jeans at the point you have marked. Cut it straight with a sharp scissor, unless you would like a unique zig-zag or wavy pattern for your shorts.
Try them on again to ensure you like the look of the shorts.
For a frayed look, toss the shorts into the washing machine and dry. An overall frayed look can be achieved by rubbing sandpaper over the shorts.
You can also personalize the shorts by embellishing one back pocket with your initials or lucky number or the logo of your favorite sport team, or a sexy motif in the case of girls.
